Ritrani Dhanai (nee Ramnarain) passed away on April 30, 2014 at the age of 68 after a short illness. Born in Canefield, Guyana, she was the second oldest of ten children to Jagrani and Ramkumar Ramnarain. Ritrani spent most of her life in Guyana where she helped raise her younger siblings. She was married to Thakoor Dhanai and had five children; Sandra, Sunita, Joe, Usha, and Narda.
The family immigrated to the United States in 1990 and settled in Madison, Wisconsin where Ritrani worked at the University of Wisconsin hospital. Ritrani was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who loved and cherished all of her family. Ritrani loved gardening, reading, going for walks, watching Indian movies, and spending quality time with her grandchildren who were the light of her life.
She is survived by her husband Thakoor; children Sandra (Tickalall) Persaud, Sunita Dhanai, Joe (Beena) Dhanai, Usha (Amo) Azimulla, and Narda (Jeff Galligan) Hadj-Kacem; grandchildren Shivani (Inshan) Sharma-Nazeer, Andre Persaud, Damien Persaud, Anisha Azimulla, Nirvani (Dillon) Sharma, Arifa Azimulla, Aftab Azimulla, Adem Hadj-Kacem, Jasir Hadj-Kacem and Jay Dhanai; great-grandchildren Amelia Nazeer and RayElla Pronschinske; sisters Chandra and Indra and brothers Willow and Robert. Ritrani was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Sunalall and David.
A viewing will be held at Cress Funeral Home 6021 University Avenue on Tuesday May 6, 2014 from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. to be followed by cremation.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the American Leprosy Mission with the specification that donations go to India.
