Richard Wojtas

December 10, 1943 — May 15, 2018

Stoughton- Richard Wojtas, 74, of Blue Island, Illinois, was born December 10, 1943, and peacefully went to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ May 15, 2018, with family, friends, and his dog, Sunny, surrounding him, at Milestone Senior Living in Stoughton.
Rich was born in Blue Island and raised in Calumet Park, Illinois, where he met and married his loving bride, Bonnie, of over 40 years. He graduated from Blue Island Community (now Eisenhower) High School in 1962 and received his B.S. as a Registered Pharmacist from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1966. After graduating with honors, he practiced at Islander Pharmacy in Blue Island, where he was part owner for over 30 years. During most of his adult life, he lived in a home he built with his brother Steve in Homer Township (now Homer Glen), Illinois, where he raised his three daughters as an actively involved dad.
After retiring in 2000 and moving to his long-time summer home on Lake Kegonsa, Rich returned to pharmacy at the Stoughton Walgreens, where he again served patients until his 2014 diagnosis with Lewy Body Dementia. Rich was known as a caring professional who delighted in practicing pharmacy and helping patients manage their health needs.
Among Rich's greatest joys was his faith in and relationship with Jesus Christ. In 1982, he accepted Christ as his Savior at Oak Forest Baptist Temple. He embraced the gift of God's grace and favor as something that despite his best efforts, he knew he could never earn. He trusted in Christ alone for his salvation but attended the church out of gratitude to his Savior. After relocating to Wisconsin, Rich became an active member and served as deacon at Stoughton Baptist Church.
A man of many interests and talents, Rich delighted in travelling within the continent with his family, taking his wife and daughters to visit approximately 30 states as well as Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. He and his wife also enjoyed an Alaskan cruise in 2000. Rich was a true "Renaissance Man," who knew how to fix or build or rig up just about anything. He also enjoyed visiting local restaurants and exploring the outdoors. As an avid hunter and fisherman, he relished the beauty of God's creation.
Well known for his sense of humor and generosity, Richard Wojtas was a delight to his family and his community. While he will be missed, those who love him are thankful that the final stages of his disease were very brief.
Beloved husband of Bonnie (Johnson) Wojtas; devoted father to Tammy (Jonathan) Wagner of Erie, PA, Judy (Tim) David of Covington, GA, and Tiffany (Michael) Ringhofer of Bourbonnais, IL; brother to Steve Wojtas; dear uncle to Greg (Becky) Waszak, Dr. Mike (Nancy) Waszak, and Susan (Keith) Landauer; loving and playful "Papa" to Weston, Lily, and Amelia David; Michael Jr., Samantha, and Emily Ringhofer; and Caleb, Josh, Lydia, and baby girl Wagner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Victoria Wojtas; and his sister, Virginia Waszak.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, and Friday, May 25, 2018 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Cress Funeral Home, 206 West Prospect Avenue, Stoughton.
