Richard V. Trameri, age 98, of Madison passed away peacefully at home on April 4, 2026. Richard was born January 29,1928 in Madison, WI to Carlo and Pierina (Praolini) Trameri.
Richard grew up in the Greenbush Neighborhood. He graduated from Central High School in 1945. In 1946 he enlisted in the army and was stationed at the Atomic Lab in Los Alamos N.M. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 44 years, finishing his career as the Financial Director of the Milwaukee Post Office.
Richard met his future wife Dorothy M Heilmann at Vilas Park Beach in Madison. They married on April 25, 1953, at St Raphael’s Cathedral in Madison. After their marriage Richard would work nights at the Post Office go home to sleep and then get up and help his uncle Nat build the house that Richard and Dorothy would live in for 72 years until his death.
Richard was very proud of his Italian heritage. He had many stories and a great memory for the people and places in the “Bush”. When he met a descendant of someone from the Bush, he would send them photos or articles and tell them a story or two about their ancestors. Richard was also a proud member of The Italian Workman’s Club. He loved to cook and made the world’s best Cannoli’s which he loved to show his family how to make. Richard had the pleasure to visit relatives several times in the Lombardy region in northern Italy and kept in touch with many of them over the years.
Richard is survived by his wife of 72 years Dorothy; daughters, Kim Trameri (Jill Melville) of Madison, Gail (Tom) Novacheck of Minneapolis and daughter-in-law Jane Dy of Verona; grandchildren, Josh (Libby), Joey (Leah), Anna (Ken), Nicholas and Jonathon; and great-grandchildren, Rosemarie, Ash, Weston, Noah and Ke’lijah; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Richard is proceeded in death by a son Paul Trameri, his parents, brothers Robert and Aldo, and sisters-in-law Delores Trameri and Francis Trameri.
A special thank you to Agrace Hospice, especially Jen, Marsarha, Jessica and Shannon for their wonderful care and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison. Family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
