Richard D. Nickels

Richard D. Nickels, age 73, died peacefully after a long battle with variety of health issues.  He was born to Emmett and Naomi (Brooks) Nickels.  Born the middle of 3 brothers, Richard-- with his friend Dave--had many childhood adventures in Cahokia, Illinois.  Richard served 2 tours in Viet Nam.  He returned to Illinois and eventually migrated to the Madison, WI area with Beverly Durrer, his wife, and her children.  After Bev’s death, Richard met and later married Diana Slater.  They were happily together for over 22 years.

Richard especially enjoyed meeting and working with a variety of people and the adventures he encountered throughout life--including the wild tiger he encountered while on guard duty in Viet Nam.

He is survived by his 3 sons, Tim, Terry (Annette) and Tom (Lora); his daughter Dawn, and his wife, Diana.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ron and Gary, and his wife, Beverly Durrer Nickels.

Per Richard’s wishes, no services will be held.  Special thanks to Agrace Hospice staff for their assistance and kindness.
