Richard Laufenberg

December 1, 1954 — December 28, 2017

Richard "Dick" Mathias Laufenberg, age 63, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 at Maplewood Nursing Home due to complications from his long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Dick was born Dec. 1, 1954 in Waunakee, WI to Mathias and Marie "Betty" (Koch) Laufenberg and was the middle of 11 children. He was married to Bonny (Brown) Laufenberg on Aug. 5, 1978, and were married for 23 years as they loved and raised three children. Dick worked as an accountant for Warman International/ Weir Slurry (Minerals) for 26 years before his disease made it too difficult to work. As a young man, Dick was active in sports, including football, track, and bowling, but his main love was always his comic books. He passed that love along to his children and grandchildren, making monthly trips to the comic book store to get the newest editions. The only thing he may have loved more than comic books were his family and sweets. Dick loved spending time with his family, whether it was watching the Packers and Badgers with them, cheering on his kids or grandkids at sporting events, or just getting down on the floor so he could play with the little ones and make them smile.
Dick is survived by his sons Jason (Anabel) Laufenberg; Jeremy (Ashley) Laufenberg; and daughter Tonya (Nathan) Yngsdal. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Joshua and Maya Laufenberg; Madison Laufenberg; and Sadie and William Yngsdal. Dick is further survived by his brothers, Michael (Lois), Bill, Tom (Joan), and Don (Steph) Laufenberg; sisters, Jane (Dan) Niesen, Joan (Tony) Helt, Kris (Ken) Hartwig, Mary (Jim) Pulvermacher, and Karla Laufenberg; brothers-in-law Keith Sines and Terry (Patty) Brown, mother of his children Bonny Laufenberg and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, sister Karen Sines, his father and mother-in-law Laurell (Helena) Brown and loved but never met grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday Jan. 5, 2018 at 11:00a.m at St. John's Catholic Church, 209 South St., Waunakee. Msgr James Gunn will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday Jan 4, 2018 at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home, 5785 Hwy Q, Waunakee from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and also at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
The family would like to thank Candice and the Parkinson's Disease support group from the Waunakee Senior Center for helping Dick to always have a positive attitude throughout his disease progression; Nancy Ninman and the staff of UW Neurology Department for giving him many more good years; and the caring staff of Maplewood Nursing Home who always made him feel at home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dick's name to The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
