MADISON- Richard "Dick" L. Aurit, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 in Madison. He was born on October 9, 1941 in Shullsburg, Wis, the son of Joseph and Estella (Sheffer) Aurit. He was united in marriage to Sharon E. Birk on October 7th, 1967.
Richard attended Benton High School and MATC. He served his country with the United States Army from 1963 until 1965. Richard then served on the Madison Police Department for 30 years before his retirement. He loved to spend time at the "Shack", hunting and ATVing. He also enjoyed woodworking, locksmithing and restoring cars with his son, Jim.
Richard is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Jim (Ahren),of Oregon, WI, and Brenda (Ty) Krugman, of Evansville, WI; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Julia, Natalie, Jack, and Alex; brothers, Norbert (Lillian) and Bernarr (Ardice),of Janesville, WI and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pauline Johnson; and brothers, Harley, Wayne and Maynard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Dr., Madison, on Thursday, May 14, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with Msgr. Kenneth J. Fiedler presiding. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of the Mass.
Donations may be made in Richard's name to the Alzheimer's and Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin, 517 N. Segoe Rd, Suite 301, Madison, WI 53705.
The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff of Badger Prairie Health Care, who were not only care givers but companions and friends to him for the past four years.
