MADISON- Rhea Katz, age 86, died peacefully on May 17, 2014 at home with family present.
She was born August 8, 1927 in Milwaukee to Joe and Rose Holzman who lived in Minocqua WI, where she was raised. They raised their children in Whitefish Bay WI, where they worked together in his podiatry practice. In 1990 they moved to Madison, to be closer to some of their children and grandchildren.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who was deeply devoted to and loved spending time with her children and their families and her extended family. With love, she knit them sweaters, hats, and blankets. She was devoted to her weekly volunteer work with her friends at Collectors' Corner of Hadassah's Madison's Chapter.
She was predeceased by her husband and survived by her brother Milton Holzman; her 3 children: Neal Katz (Marci) [sons Adam and David Katz]; Sherie Sondel (Paul) [children Jesse (Emilie) Sondel (children, Jordan and Evan), Beth Sondel, Elana Dellal (George) (sons, Jonah and Oliver), and Jodi Sondel]; and Brian Katz (Marca) [sons Jacob, Ian and Zachary Katz]; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday May 19, 2014 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway, Madison, followed by burial at Beit Olamim cemetery at 7302 Mineral Point Rd.
The Katz family is grateful to Dr. Joshua Lange at UW hospital, the kind staff at the Gardens Independent Living, and the support of Agrace hospice. In lieu of flowers, the Katz family would appreciate donations made to Madison's Rachel S. Jastrow Hadassah Chapter.
