Raymond Steventon

April 17, 1926 — September 15, 2014

DeForest - Raymond L. Steventon, age 88, passed away on September 15, 2014 at Skaalen Nursing Home. He was born on April 17, 1926 in Merrick, NY, the son of Franklin B. and Alice Steventon. He married Harriet G. Magnus on March 12, 1948 in Memphis, TN.

Raymond served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. While in the Navy he was part of the teams that flew the Super Constellations and were the original Hurricane Hunters. He retired after 21 years of service. After the military he worked with the U.W. Madison, Center for Climate Research and was involved with the Radio Carbon Dating buisness. He received the Silver Beaver Award for his involvement in Scouting.

He is survived by his wife, 1 brother, 3 daughters, 1 son, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and sister.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday October 9, 2014 at Skaalen Nursing Home, 400 N. Morris St., Stoughton. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday. Raymond will be laid to rest at Southern Wis. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, inurnment at 2:00 p.m., with full military honors.
