Raymond M. Quant, age 89, died on December 10, 2015. Raymond was born in New London, WI to Elmer and Alice Quant where he graduated from high school in 1943. He then served for two years in the U.S. Army during World War II in General Patton's Third Army Headquarters. He was very proud of his military service.

Raymond attended the University of Wisconsin from 1946 to 1950 under the G.I. Bill of Rights. He described those years as the best years of his life.

Before retirement in 1988, he taught history for 36 years at Madison West High School.

While at Madison West High School, he received numerous study and travel scholarships. He studied at Santa Barbara University, The University of Hawaii in Honolulu, Tokyo, Japan and Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. During these scholarship studies he was presented to Crown Prince Akihito of Japan, now Emperor, and to Haile Selassie of Ethiopia.

Ray continued traveling around the world after retirement and enjoyed gardening, especially his geraniums.

Ray is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Burton, Lyle and Wilton and sisters Arlene and Marian.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Heritage Middleton and Agrace Hospice for their personal care and dedication to Ray.

A memorial service will he held on Sunday, January 10th at 2:00 at Cress Funeral Home, 6021 University Ave., Madison. Visitation will be from 1:00 until the time of the service. A burial service will be held with military honors at Floral Hill Cemetery in New London at a later date.
