MADISON - Raymond Dewey Mattie, age 82, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, March 19, 2012 after a long battle with Melanoma.
Raymond was born on January 29, 1930, the son of Dewey and Nellie (Reamer) Mattie in Prairie du Chien, Wis. and moved to Madison when he was one year old. He lived in the Williamson Street area until he joined the U.S. Army in February 1948. Raymond was married to Judith Ann Mier on January 27, 1962, in Milwaukee. They had four children and resided on the east side of Madison. He enjoyed spending time with his family. One of his favorite things for many years was taking the family camping. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, swimming and bowling. After retirement, Raymond and Judy took many trips and cruises including trips to Hawaii and Alaska. In his later years, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and taking them places, putting together puzzles, sending out emails and reading his newspaper. He was a long time member of Eastside Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the VFW #8483.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judy; his four children, Claude Mattie of Madison, Clyde (Wendy) Mattie of Madison, Michelle (John) Lehman of Sun Prairie and RaeLynn (Mourad) Rguig of Madison; seven grandchildren, Cassandra (Justin), Daniel, Alexis, Andres, Riley, Maisa, and Soukaina; a step-granddaughter, KaSandra; two great-grandchildren, Jaydin and Jordin; two brothers, Lawrence (Marie) Mattie and Richard (Dorothy) Mattie; two sisters, Sharon (Kerry) Byers and Harriet (Bob) Schmidt; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
