Madison - Raymond H. Lang Jr. age 90, passed away at Oakwood Village West on Saturday, January 23, 2016. He was born in Watertown, WI on April 8, 1925 to Raymond H. Lang, Sr. and Maud (Brueckner) Lang. He is survived by a sister Judith L. Bakke and four children. Ray was raised by his grandmother, Mary Brueckner, as his mother died when he was a small child. He spent his entire youth in Jefferson and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1943. Ray then spent several years as a draftsman at Moe Brothers Manufacturing Company, Fort Atkinson, involved in armament production. After WWII, Ray received degrees in mechanical and agricultural engineering at UW Madison. Ray spent his entire professional career at L.L. Olds Seed Company and retired in 1990 as its President. Ray was married to Jeanne M. Herrling in Madison in 1955. She preceded him in death in 2012. Together they were blessed with four children, Craig (Gwyn), Christopher, Timothy, Mary L. Reames and one grandchild, Justin Reames. Ray was a 32nd Degree Mason and Zor Shriner. He loved to play his clarinet and performed with the Jefferson High School and American Legion bands, UW Symphonic and marching bands, Shrine bands in Madison and Phoenix, AZ and several smaller musical performing groups. His other hobby since boyhood was building and flying model airplanes. With his family he camped in Northern Wisconsin, New England states and most of the western National Parks. In later years, Ray and Jeanne spent winter months in Scottsdale, AZ. Ray and Jeanne both devoted time volunteering at Luther Memorial Church in numerous capacities including teaching Sunday school classes. His family will miss him very much.
Friends may join the family for a visitation at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd, Madison on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 11a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon. Raymond will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the Zor Shriners Children's Hospital, Chicago unit or Dane County Second Harvest Food Bank.
