Raymond Herritz

July 29, 1935 — February 23, 2014

Madison - Raymond "Ray" L. Herritz, 78 of Madison, passed away at Karmenta Nursing Home on Sunday, February 23, 2014, surrounded by his family. Ray was born on July 29, 1935 to Gustav and Elsie (Groener) Herritz. He spent much of his childhood in Baraboo before his family moved to Madison. Ray enlisted in the US Navy in 1953 and served aboard the U.S.S. McCain until 1956. He was employed for a few years with the U.S.P.S, prior to his 39 year career with Oscar Mayer Foods, he was a member of UFCW local 538.
He married to Virginia (Stoudt) Schwartz in October 9, 1965 in Madison. He enjoyed gardening, took joy in caring for his yard and kept up on almost all sports. However his face would light up when his grandchildren and recently great grandchildren were around and truely loved his little dogs, Kaci and Kali.
He is survived by his loving wife Virginia, of 48 years. Four daughters; Sandy (Matt) Leitzen, Terri (Curt) Anderson, Cheryl Schwartz and Donna Holzhueter, six grandchildren; Jennifer Bronson, Tim Bronson, Leah (Todd) Furseth, Chris Anderson, Jason (Ashly) Anderson and Keith Anderson, three great-grandchildren; Alexander Bronson, Olivia and Kayla Anderson and a brother-in-law, Bruce Precourt along with nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Adeline Precourt.

Funeral services will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 E. Washington Ave., Madison on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 12:00 noon with Pastor Jerry Amstutz officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:30 am until the time of service.
