Pradip Tolat, age 67, of Madison, WI, completed his life journey with dignity, surrounded by his loving and devoted family on November 15, 2013, after a courageous four-and-a-half year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Pradip was born on October 2, 1946, in Surat, India, to Panachand and Pushpa (Sushila) Tolat. A dedicated student, he graduated from Jain High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from Gujarat University in India. In 1969, with unwavering support from his mother and sister, Pradip moved to the United States to continue his education, receiving a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from St. Louis University in 1971. He then went on to build a career as an electrical engineer, eventually retiring from the State of Wisconsin-Department of Administration after 21 years of service.
Pradip appreciated the little things in life: sitting outside at the Terrace, enjoying a good margarita on the rocks, and listening to old Indian Music. Most of all, "Bapu" (Pradip's nickname to many) enjoyed chatting with his numerous friends.
Pradip had a passion for traveling. Despite his illness, he still was committed to traveling and visited many destinations throughout the World and US. For example, he traveled to Kenya for an African Safari in between cancer treatments, completing an ultimate lifelong goal.
Pradip was a supportive husband and father as well as a caring friend who enjoyed helping others. His most admired characteristic was his ability to remain optimistic. His positive outlook served as a loving and guiding presence to all who met him. His favorite phrases and most helpful advice shared regularly was "Be Good", "Don't' Worry Be Happy", and "Hakuna Matata."
A kind and generous soul, Pradip was loved by many and will be missed by all. Pradip is survived by his wife, Varsha Tolat; his son, Parag (Holley) Tolat; his daughter, Parini Tolat, and his grandchildren, Pria and Praveen Tolat. In addition, Pradip left behind his beloved sister (Pratibha), many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, wonderful friends and great colleagues. They all touched his life and made it richer.
A special thank you to all the health care providers at Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin, UW Hospital/Clinics and Agrace Hospice Care for their dedicated care.
A private service will be held at the Cress Center for immediate family. At Pradip's request, a grand celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be given to the family at
