MIDDLETON - Pauline "Polly" Thornton Boswell Fosdick died March 31 at Attic Angel Place. She was born in Fort Worth, TX, August 24, 1921. When she was 10, the family moved to Evanston, IL. She graduated from Evanston Township High School before earning her B.A. in English in 1943 from the University of Texas, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She earned an Administrative Secretary Certificate in 1944 from the Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School. She met Captain James Albert Fosdick when she was a secretary at Fort Sam Houston. They were married October 1, 1945, and lived in Kent, OH, before moving to Madison. While Jim worked as a Professor of Journalism at the UW, Polly was a Project Supervisor for 19 years in the Department of Economics.
Polly was an avid bridge player and nature lover. She and Jim enjoyed traveling and spending summers in Door County. Polly volunteered at Attic Angels for decades before becoming a resident in 2001.
She is survived by her husband, James Albert Fosdick; children, Jim, Debby, and Scott; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Stewart and Dora Boswell; and her sister, Betsy.
Services will be held Friday, April 11, at 11:15 am in the Garden Room at Attic Angel Place, 8301 Old Sauk Road, Middleton.
