Philip Joseph Rotar age 77 passed away at UW Hospital on Wednesday evening November 9th 2016. He was born in a log cabin in Lugerville, WI on March 22nd 1939 to Stanley and Catherine Rotar.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Katherine (Schossow), sons Timothy (Regina) Madison, Daniel (Sandra) Milwaukee, and daughter Janet of Greenfield. Sisters Joanne Welch, Naperville, IL, Patricia Feree, Hartland and Betty Twin, West Allis. Predeceased by his son Kenneth, brothers Robert, James and sisters Mary Lou and Helen. He is also survived three grandchildren Zanae, Kirill and Mikhail.
Phil's education started in a one room schoolhouse in Lugerville. He moved to Milwaukee at age 15, graduated from Messmer High School and started working at American Motors. After 18 years of service there, he became a Prudential Representative for 17 years, he retired in 1994 and moved to Madison.
Phil's greatest joy besides his family was his love for music. He played the accordion from the age of 8. Later he played in a band The Jolly Vagabonds and on four occasions with his lifetime idol Frankie Yankovic. In later years he shared his talents at many senior facilities in the area.
He held a very deep faith as a member of St. Maria Goretti Parish and sang in the church choir for many years. He was also a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member.
Visitation will be held on Thursday November 17th at St. Maria Goretti Church 5313 Flad Avenue in Madison at 10:00 am, Mass will follow at 11:00.
The family wishes to thank the UW Hospital staff for the wonderful care that was givien to Phil.
Phil was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all those whose hearts and lives he touched.
