Stoughton- Peter Alan Woodard passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2016 in Stoughton, WI at the age of 87 years. Pete was born on November 30, 1928 in Pittsburgh PA, son of the late Harry Patton Woodard Sr. and Kathryn Dunn Woodard. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Genevieve, a brother, Harry Jr. and sister, Jean Woodard.
While growing up Pete attended the Belmont Abbey in NC, a private Catholic Preparatory School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Park College in 1973, and also received a Master of Arts Degree from Webster College in 1975. He achieved a lifetime teaching certificate in the State of Missouri. He loved to read, was an educator of speed reading and read thousands of books.
Pete achieved retirement status after 26 years in the United States Air Force with a rank of E9 Chief Master Sergeant with assignments worldwide. He went on to many years of teaching, consulting and managing for national and international organizations and businesses, traveling all over the U.S. and the World such as Saudi Arabia and Iran. He was one of the original staff members and the Academic Division Chief of the AFCS NCO Academy, Kansas City, MO.
Pete is survived by a son, Dennis Woodard of Lakewood, WA, daughter, LeeAnn Murks, Gulfport, MS, step daughter, Aurora Toth, Lakewood, WA; grandson, Walter Woodard, granddaughter, Jessica Murks, great grandson, Kameron Smith, both of Biloxi, MS.
Peter married Verna B. Sharp (surviving wife) in Delafield, WI on August 9, 1997. From this marriage Pete is survived by step sons Steven (Beth) Sharp, Scott (Dawn) Sharp, all of Stoughton, WI, step daughter, Sally (Kevin) Goelz of Oconomowoc, WI; seven step grandchildren, Ryan (Jasmine) Sharp, Andrew (Kristy) Sharp, Erik Sharp all of Evansville, WI, Joshua Sharp, Raleigh, NC, William Sharp, Cross Plains, WI, Nathan and Samantha Goelz, Oconomowoc, WI; five step great grandchildren, Braelyn, Kaliyah, Bodie, Owen, Lucy Sharp, all of Evansville, WI.
Pete was a very educated, humorous and generous man, full of many stories of his life travels in the Air Force. Pete and Verna were winter residents at Lazy Lane, Continental Country Club, Wildwood FL, a resort community where he was an avid golfer and member of the hole in one club.
Thank you for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and treasured husband and friend to our mother. Our family loved him and we all feel so blessed by having him in our lives. God bless you Pete, until we see you again....at the Hale Koa, "House of the Warrior"!
Per Pete's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. He will be put to rest at the Military Cemetery, Biloxi National, in Biloxi, MS.
Our family wishes to thank Agrace Hospice for their wonderful care of Pete. Any memorials in Pete's name can be sent to the Disabled Veterans or Agrace Hospice.
