Peter Meffert

October 1, 1944 — December 6, 2017

Peter S. Meffert, age 73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 6th, 2017. He was born on October 1, 1944, to Peter and Martha (Karls) Meffert. He attended St. John's Catholic School and graduated from Waunakee High School. He married Sue Laufenberg on September 7th, 1974. They were blessed with two children, Chad Meffert and Carrie Meier.

Pete served a brief time with the National Guard. He also farmed just outside of Waunakee in the Town of Westport where he raised steers and helped for a time at his brother's dairy farm. He was most proud of his 30-year career with Meffert Oil, beginning as his brother's first employee; he felt much pride in his work and many of his customers became close friends. In 1998, Pete suffered a brain aneurysm that cut his beloved career short. He routinely still found time to stop in and say hello to those at Meffert Oil whether it be patrons or past coworkers. For the past 19 years, there have been days of sadness, but Pete always felt fortunate to be alive to continue to visit with friends, new and old, to watch his family grow and to become a Grandpa.

Pete will always be remembered for his smile and brightening any room with his warm heart and kind words.

Pete is survived by his devoted wife, Sue (Laufenberg) and his children, Chad (fiancé Tracy Winters) Roscoe IL and Carrie (Mike) Meier Waunakee; and his two grandchildren, Lexi and Kamryn Meier. He is also survived by his brothers and sister, Joe (Pidge) Meffert, Jim (Linda) Meffert, Jack (Marilyn) Meffert, and Cheryl (Russ) Wipperfurth; father-in-Law, Anthony Laufenberg; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony (Vicky) Laufenberg, Carol (Randy) Zander, Tim (Renee) Laufenberg, Tom (Theresa) Laufenberg, Ted (Bridget) Laufenberg, Alice (Dan) Allen, Joyce (Wayne) Knapton, Mary (Steve) Millin, Linda (Todd) Meffert and Todd (Darlene) Laufenberg; as well as his many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Martha Meffert; mother-in-law, Alyce Laufenberg; and sisters and brothers-in- law, Mary Ann (Patrick) Boyle, Joan (Punk) Deans, and Bernice (Zeke) Zeman.
