Paul Weitzer

Paul J. Weitzer, age 92, passed away after a life defined by faith, family, service, and unwavering love.

Born in West Allis, Wisconsin, Paul later made his home in Waunakee, Wisconsin, where he and his beloved wife Sandy (Lewis) raised their family. He was a devoted husband whose love never diminished. Even twenty years after her passing, he remained deeply in love with her, carrying her memory in his heart each day. Their enduring love was an inspiration to their family and all who knew them.

Paul proudly served his country at the end of the Korean War. While stationed overseas, he embraced opportunities to travel throughout Europe during leave, creating memories that he enjoyed sharing throughout his life. Following his military service, he earned his Engineering degree from Marquette University through the GI Bill. He went on to enjoy a distinguished career with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, serving as a Financial Operations Manager. He was respected for his intelligence, integrity, dedication, and exceptional work ethic.

A man of deep faith, Paul was a devoted Catholic whose beliefs guided the way he lived his life. One of his deepest beliefs is that no matter how much you love someone or how much they love you, "God loves you more." He was a man of service. Through his life he was involved in church activities, including coordinating dances and picnics and was also an active and proud member of the American Legion, continuing his commitment to his fellow veterans and his community.

Above all, Paul was devoted to his family. He was the loving father of five children and is survived by Diane (Rob) Blasko, Chris (Amber), Denise (David) Black, Lynn, and Amy Schmitt.

He was an incredibly proud grandfather to Samantha (Kyle) Kilbourne, Alexis Weitzer, Amanda (Daniel) Suedbeck, Kimberly Blasko, Jenna Black, Lauren Black, Jennifer Blasko, Jordan Schmitt, Bennett Weitzer, and Nathan Schmitt. He treasured every milestone, celebration, and opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren. During the chaos of family gatherings, you would find him taking it in, quietly sitting with a grin on his face.

Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife; his parents Alois and Laura (Rieder) Weitzer; his sister, June (Bob) Klug; and his brothers, Julius (Joan), Victor (Betty), Harold (Annette), Donald, and Ralph (Yvonne).

Paul will be remembered for his quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, and his reputation as a sophisticated prankster. His practical jokes were thoughtfully planned, meticulously executed, and delivered with that grin (again) that made it impossible to stay upset for long.

He was also an excellent dancer. He discovered his love of dancing with his beloved wife when they first met. As his daughters grew, he delighted in dancing with them at weddings, a tradiion he lovingly continued with his granddaughters. Those dances became treasured moments that reflected the love, joy, and pride he felt for his family.

Paul's life was one of quiet strength, steadfast faith, devoted service, and unconditional love. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, wisdom, and enduring devotion to family. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 12,2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church 209 South St. Waunakee. Friends may call on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
