Paul Thorstad

DEERFIELD - Paul B. Thorstad, age 81, passed away on Wed June 6, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born in Madison on Nov 21, 1936, the son of Emil and Mabel (Berge) Thorstad. Paul graduated from Deerfield High School in 1954. On Oct 27, 1956 he married Shirley Calder at Deerfield Lutheran Church. He farmed for many years in Deerfield until moving to town in 1973, he then worked for many years at Royal Publishing before his retirement. He loved music, and playing his guitar for family and friends. Playing with his grandchildren and taking long walks in the woods with his family was a special time. Paul loved to grill and garden.
He is survived by his three children, Jane (Dan) Kelly, Dan (Kathy), and Rick (Terrie); nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister Lois Anderson; brother-in-law Tim Rideout. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Shirley; brother Howard (Lorraine) Thorstad; brother-in-law Leonard Anderson; sisters-in-law Carol Jean (Eugene) Halverson and June Gullixson Rideout; brother-in-law Dave Gullixson; niecesPatti Hoffland and Carrie Jacobs.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday June 12, 2018 at DEERFIELD LUTHERAN CHURCH, 206 S. Main St. Deerfield, with Rev. Larry Sexe presiding. Burial will follow in Deerfield Lutheran Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon, following the burial, in the church fellowship hall. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or to Jefferson Memory Care. A special thank you to the staff of Jefferson Memory Care for their patience and care.
