Paul Syftestad

WAUNAKEE-Paul Bertram Syftestad, 88, passed peacefully on Nov. 26, at home. He was born in Madison; the son of Paul and Bertha (Matson) Syftestad.

Paul enlisted in the Merchant Marines after graduation and served on several Liberty ships. Upon discharge from the service, Paul attended Agriculture classes at UW. He was employed as a Fieldman and Manager for the WI/DHIA in Columbia and Marquette counties until his retirement.

In 1948, Paul married Marillyn Weiner and raised their family in Columbus. Paul enjoyed gardening, fishing, and volunteered in various clubs and organizations, such as Madison Ostomy Club, VFW and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Marillyn; daughters, Deb Robbins, Chris (Steve) Gilles, Jodie (Glenn) Holmes; 7 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday Dec 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St Mary of the Lake Catholic Church 5460 Mary Lake Rd Westport. Rev James Leeser will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery with full military honors.
