Paul Michael Matcha, age 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2026 at Badger Prairie Health Care Center in Verona. He was born in Chicago, IL on January 6, 1946, the son of James and Charlotte (Janda) Matcha. Paul married Anita Volovsek in West Allis, WI on May 31, 1980. He received his BS from Michigan State University, where he studied Economics and Philosophy. Paul worked for the University of Wisconsin Madison as Director of Information Technology in Business Services until his retirement.

Paul lived a rich life, filled with love for his family and with many varied interests. Paul was most happy outdoors. He and his family spent many summer weekends in Door County on their boat, Perfect Match, hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, playing golf with friends, and watching his wife wash the boat. He loved to travel and indulge his passion for photography. He was an excellent cook and loved to garden. He liked to drink whiskey, smoke cigars and loved to visit wineries. He was funny.

Paul is survived by his wife, Anita, his daughter Rachel (Gaurav) Kulkarni, son Jeffrey (Dedra) Matcha, and his cherished grandchildren; Nikhil, Laila, and Anika Kulkarni, and Eliza and Jacob Matcha.

A celebration of Paul’s life will be held Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave., Madison, WI 53705. A visitation will be held from 10:30 am until 11:30 am followed by a service at 11:30. A luncheon will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in Paul’s name be made to Agrace HospiceCare. Paul’s family would like to thank Agrace HospiceCare, and the staff of Badger Prairie Health Care Center for their loving and compassionate care.
