Paul Joseph Matt

Paul Joseph Matt, 88, of Madison, WI, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024 in Bay Harbor Assisted Living in Madison, WI.

Paul was born on November 14, 1935 in Cassville, WI to Joseph and Beulah (Hill) Matt. He was raised on the family farm near Cassville and enjoyed 4H where he entered calves and pigs in local county fairs.  He graduated from Cassville High School May 29, 1953 with a class of 31 students.

Paul married Dixie Sitts on April 25, 1959 and they raised four children in Potosi, WI. They celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary this April.

Paul did farm work and worked at the Dubuque Packing Company in Dubuque, IA for more than 30 years. After moving to Waunakee in 1994, he enjoyed his work in the shipping department at Electronic Theatre Controls in Middleton, WI. He did volunteer work for the Cuba City Council, the Boy Scouts organization, the Madison Recreation Pontoon boat rides and at the Waunakee Senior Center.

Paul was a member of the United Church of Christ in Potosi and the First Presbyterian Church of Waunakee. He enjoyed fishing, canoeing, camping, and hunting. He also liked playing euchre, whittling, being outdoors, and traveling to Hawaii, Arizona, Colorado, the Pacific NW, and Europe.

Paul was a kind and happy man and very easy going.  He enjoyed working on his cars and spending time with his family.  He had a great sense of humor, liked a hearty meal and enjoyed looking for morels, harvesting walnuts and apples.

Paul is survived by his wife Dixie, son Peter, and daughters Susan (John) O'Neill, Ellen (Frederick) Bassett, and Anita (Marty) Cornell, ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his brother John Matt and sister, Margaret (Harvey) Kinkade.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bay Harbor and Agrace Hospice for the loving care that was given to Paul.

A memorial service will be held for Paul at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church in Waunakee, WI at 5763 Co Rd Q, on Friday, June 7, 2024 with Pastor Glen presiding. A visitation will be held from 9:30AM until time of service at the church on Friday.

Burial will be at 4:00 pm on Friday, June 7,2024 at Hillside Cemetery, Lincoln Road, Lancaster, WI.
