Paul Greisen

February 6, 1938 — May 4, 2024

Paul Joseph Greisen, 86, of Waunakee (formerly of Spring Green) passed away Saturday May 4th, 2024, surrounded by the four special girls in his life that treasured him more than anything.

Paul was born on February 6, 1938, in Rice Lake, WI to Paul and Marcella (Demers) Greisen, graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1957, and married his wife, Carol in 1963.  Paul earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire in 1970, as well as obtaining a CPA license through continued education in 1974. Before college, Paul enlisted in the Air Force and attended the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Presidio of Monterey, California. He then honorably served his country from 1957 to 1960 in Berlin as a German/Russian interpreter. Later in life, he continued to proudly serve his fellow Veterans and his community as a member of the American Legion. His first job after college was with Ronald Mattox and Associates in Madison. He then moved to Spring Green and worked as an accountant at Edward Kraemer & Sons in Plain for the next 34 years until his retirement in 2006. Paul made many dear friends during his time in the Spring Green and Plain communities and enjoyed many various activities with them such as bowling, golfing, playing cards, and deer hunting.

Family was most important to Paul. He cherished his girls and his grandchildren and loved watching them participate in their various activities as they grew up. He loved a good card game, Friday night fish fry with his special gal, participating in family shenanigans, giving anyone and everyone driving directions (even though he was told repeatedly that we were just going to punch it into our phones anyway), and any excuse to get out of the house which meant stopping to eat at his favorite Chinese restaurant on the way home.

Paul is survived by his very special companion, Nancy Hoskins of Waunakee, 3 daughters: Elena Greisen (John Brei) of Plain, Pamela Greisen (Mark Snyder) of Sauk City, and Angela Borne of Dodgeville. He was loved and will be missed by 8 grandchildren: Kyle (Angela) McIntosh, Jenni (Drew) Umhoefer, Krista (Hector) Covarrubias, Bradley Dummer, Holly Dorn, Haley, Taylor and Grace Borne, 2 great-grandchildren, Fabian Covarrubias and Kai McIntosh, and a great-grandchild (Umhoefer) on the way. He is further survived by 2 brothers, Gerald Greisen of Greenwood, John Greisen of Rice Lake, and sister-in-law Jean Greisen of Rice Lake, as well as many treasured nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Paul will be greeted in heaven by his beloved wife of 50 years, Carol Greisen, parents Paul and Marcella Greisen, parents-in-law Harold and Georgia Knutson, brother Robert Greisen, sister Shirley Saffert, in-laws Rita Greisen, Mary Greisen, Richard Saffert, Ron and Nancy Knutson, and son-in-law Bill Borne.

Paul will be laid to rest along with his wife Carol at 2 pm on Friday, June 7th at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, N4063 Veterans Way, Spooner, WI 54801. The public service with military honors will be followed by a celebration of life gathering at the Elks Lodge, 36 E. Eau Claire Street, Rice Lake, WI 54868. (Please use the lakeside entrance for entering the hall).

Our parting message to Paul: As a husband, companion, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend – you did good. We are immensely proud of the man you were. You lived a full life, and your legacy will continue within each of us. You are now at peace and free from earthly troubles. Rest well; until we meet again. We love you!
