Patricia Ann Weinswig, age 86 passed away on May 12, 2024
Pat was born to Alan and Bernice McLeod in Chicago on October 17, 1937. She grew up on the south side of Chicago in South Shore. After working part time as an apprentice in a neighborhood pharmacy during high school, she decided that she wanted to become a pharmacist. Pat attended the University of Illinois, College of Pharmacy and graduated as a pharmacist in 1959 after passing the board as a pharmacist. She worked as a pharmacist in community pharmacies in Indiana and Wisconsin and as a teaching assistant at Butler University and the University of Wisconsin, School of Pharmacy.
While attending the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy, she met her future husband and the love of her life, Mel Weinswig. They married in 1960. In 1961, Mel received his Ph.D. and accepted his first teaching position as an Assistant Professor in Medicinal Chemistry as the Butler University College of Pharmacy in Indianapolis, Indiana. Their three children were born there.
Mel and Pat moved to Madison, Wisconsin in 1969. Pat did volunteer work for Hadassah and B’nai Brith Women, Temple Beth El Sisterhood and served on the Board of Trustees and as President of Temple Beth El. She also volunteered in the School of Hope Program at the elementary school level. She enjoyed participating in a variety of sports such as softball, volleyball, bicycling and swimming and in her later years walking her Husky/Shepherd dog, come rain or come shine. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, calligraphy and concerts of the Madison Symphony Orchestra. Her family always came first and children and grandchildren activities were always the top of her agenda. Attending swim meets, soccer games, baseball games and choir performances at school were a part of her daily life. Preparing food for family events and holidays were additional joys for her to do and all to enjoy.
She is survived by her husband Mel of 64 years, her three children, Ellen (Brian) Gordon, son Steve (Susan) and her son Robert (Angie) as well as her grandchildren: Danielle, Zachary, Benjamin, Emma, Grace, Lily and Josie and great-grandchildren: Ivy and Ezra.
A private family burial service will take place at Beit Olamim Cemetery. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
