Patricia L. Swenson

MCFARLAND—Patricia “Pat” L. Swenson, age 92, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023.  She was born on January 27, 1931 in Madison to Derby and Elizabeth (Hull) Havey.  She married Gayhart Swenson on December 10, 1949.  

Pat was very artistic.  Her talents included ceramics, China painting, quilting, and cake decorating.  She was an incredible seamstress having made much of the children’s clothing, and her cooking and baking was unmatchable. 

Gayhart was everything to Pat.   He was her life, and together, they made an incredible family.  She was endlessly kind and accepting of everyone.   In addition to being a den mother, Pat never missed a kid’s game or event, and she never met a stranger.  Pat was always present for a hug, a smile, or a vote of encouragement.  

Pat’s faith was strong, and she was a longtime member of McFarland Lutheran Church.  

Pat is survived by her husband and best friend of 73 years, Gayhart; children Richard (Sonja) Swenson, Craig (Nichol) Swenson, Charles (Linda) Swenson, Wendy (Todd) Meicher, and Tracy Swenson; 8 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.  She is further survived by her brother Darrell (Sylvia) Havey and her sister Judy (the late Arnie) Halverson; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and countless friends. 

Pat was preceded in death by her daughter Lisa Marie; her father Derby Havey; her mother and step-father Elizabeth and Oliver Huppert; and sisters Phyllis Prange and Kay White.
