Madison / Cottage Grove

Patricia Lavonne (Kay) Redman, age 79, of Madison, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2026. She was born on November 16, 1946, in Madison, Wisconsin, the daughter of Gordon and Nellie Elda Kay. On October 16, 1965, she married Gary Redman, in Madison.

Patti dedicated more than 35 years of her career to the Human Resources Department at the State of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD), formerly known as DILHR. Following her retirement, she worked part-time for several years as an administrative assistant for the Cottage Grove Police Department.

Above all else, Patti cherished her family. Whether attending family events, gathering everyone around the table for Sunday dinner, or simply spending time together, she was happiest when surrounded by the people she loved. She was an incredibly kind, caring, and supportive mother who always wanted the best for her children and grandchildren. Her familiar words, “Make good choices” and “Love you, be safe,” were more than just reminders; they were expressions of the love and concern she carried for her family every day.

Patti’s love extended far beyond her immediate family. She was a mother and grandmother not only to her own biological family but also to many others who were fortunate enough to know her. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering support touched countless lives, and her love will continue to live on in the hearts of all those she held dear.

Patti is survived by her children, Nancy (Marc) Wynne, Brian (Jennifer) Redman, and Jennifer Bentley; her grandchildren, Eric Redman, Ally Jo Redman, Rudy (Saily) Bentley Jr., and Kalena Bentley; and her great-granddaughter, Sofia Bentley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; her parents, Gordon and Nellie Elda Kay; and her brothers, Donald and Robert.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Drumlin Reserve Memory Care Center and Agrace Hospice for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to Patti during her final years.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Cress Funeral & Cremation Service, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, Wisconsin. A celebration of life will follow at 11:30 a.m., with lunch and burial afterward.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Patricia Redman’s name to Agrace Hospice.

Patti will be remembered for her generous heart, her devotion to family, and the countless ways she made others feel loved and cared for. Though she will be deeply missed, her words, her love, and the memories she created will remain with her family and all those whose lives she touched.
