Stoughton- Owen L. Veum, age 98, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Agrace HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. He was born in Stoughton on May 24, 1917, the son of Christ and Elsa Veum. Owen grew up on the family farm and was very proud of his Norwegian heritage. On February 19, 1944 he married Eunice Schachtschneider. Together they continued the Veum farm where Owen raised over 83 crops of tobacco, a host of other farm crops, and was very proud of his son Kenny continuing in his footsteps. Owen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his seven children, Thomas Veum, Mary (Dwight) Pugh, Christine (Duane) Ring, Jean (Mike) Nordlie, Ann Veum, John (Terry) Veum, and Kenny (Cindy) Veum; 12 grandchildren, Eric (Rachel) Veum, Michele (Mike) Baldwin, Daniel (Cathy Hopkins) Pugh, Sherri (Robb) Burke, Vicki (Tim) Lamb, Nick (Kayla) Ring, Brian (Sarah) Nordlie, Chad Nordlie, Amber (Bryce) Sime, Amanda (Jamison) McNeely, Benjamin Veum, and Shelby Veum; 15 great grandchildren; and cousins in Norway. Owen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and great granddaughter, Caitlyn Lamb. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Covenant Lutheran Church, Stoughton, with Rev. Mark Petersen officiating. Burial will follow in Graves Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon, following the burial, in the church fellowship hall. Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, and from 10:00 AM until the time of services Wednesday at the church.
