Otto Driewer

July 23, 1925 — June 14, 2016

McFarland- Otto "Bud" Driewer, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at St. Mary's Care Center after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.

He was born in York, NE on July 23, 1925 the son of Otto and Martha Driewer. Bud grew up in Nebraska until his family moved to McFarland in 1935. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country for two years during WWII. On April 11, 1948 Bud married Shirley Ann Suetmeier at McFarland Lutheran Church. He worked for Gisholt in Madison for a short period before working for the Village of McFarland for over 30 years, retiring as the Director of Public Works in 1988.

Bud was a long time member of McFarland Lutheran Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and serving as the custodian for over 30 years. He was a member of the McFarland Lions Club, and McFarland VFW where he served as past commander. Bud enjoyed woodworking, gardening and reading. He was an avid Badger and Packer fan. Bud's passion was baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, and playing Home Talent League for McFarland where his team won several State titles.

Bud is survived by his wife of 68 years, Shirley; daughter, Nancy (Al) Lauersdorf of Oregon; son, Dan of Greenfield; four grandchildren, Tim and Matt (Vicki) Lauersdorf, and Adam (Angela) and Kevin Driewer; three great grandchildren, Olivia Bright, Rhyeland Driewer, and Trinity Ellestad; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Lorraine Jones.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at McFarland Lutheran Church, 5529 Marsh Road, McFarland, with Rev. Timothy Dean officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon immediately following the services in the fellowship hall. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services on Wednesday at church. Private burial will take place in Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Dane County Humane Society.

A special thank you to Dr. John Ewalt for his care and compassion, and to the staff of St. Mary's Care Center and Home Health United for their excellent care of Bud.
