Lunde, Olaf
Stoughton- Olaf J. Lunde, age 96, died peacefully on Friday, March 9, 2012. He was born on the family farm in Pleasant Springs Township on July 25, 1915, to George and Lena (Kleven) Lunde. He attended Stoughton schools and was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church. After graduating from high school in 1934, he attended the Agricultural Short Course Program at the University of Wisconsin. For the next six years he traveled to 26 family farms each month working as a Dairy Herd Improvement field agent. Before buying his own farm in 1952, he spent three years working at Fairbanks Morse, until he was called to serve in the U.S. Air force near the end of WWII. In 1940, he married Ruby Mykeljord and they had three children, Thomas (Virginia), James (Sharon) and Janet (Robert) Fruth. Ruby passed away in 1972. While attending his 40th class reunion he became reacquainted with Rebecca Stokstad and they married in September 1974. His step-children are Kathryn Utter and David (Laura) Gjestson.
Olaf and Rebecca enjoyed traveling around the U.S. and several European countries. Their favorite trips included Hawaii, Norway and Greece. They also enjoyed spending time with their many friends at Vennevoll, and most recently the Skaalen Apartments.
Survivors include his loving wife, Rebecca; his children, step-children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Lenore Stai; a sister-in-law, Hazel Lunde; as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceding Olaf in death were his parents, two brothers, Aaron and Alvin; a sister, Ruth Teigen; and a grandson, DuWayne.
Olaf's entire family is grateful for the loving care and support given by the staff at Skaalen Nursing Home. A memorial service will be held at noon on Monday, March 19, 2012 at Skaalen Chapel, 400 N. Morris St., Stoughton, with the Rev. James Koza officiating. The family will greet friends at Skaalen chapel on Monday from 11:00 am until the time of service at noon. A luncheon reception will be held in the Skaalen Friendship Room following services. Memorials may be made to Skaalen Home, or to The Sons of Norway.
