Odelia Karls

Odelia M. Karls, age 89, of Waunakee, passed away at the Waunakee Manor on April 25, 2017. She was born on Dec. 3, 1927, to Arthur and Christina (Endres) Greiber. She married Thomas G. Karls on Sept. 12, 1950, at St. Martins Catholic Church at Martinsville. They were married almost 62 years before Tom's passing on May 15, 2012.

Odelia was a homemaker and family was very important to her. She also worked at the canning factory, The Cheeseman, and The Innkeeper. She also did volunteer work as a Wauna-maker, working with the 4-H Club, crocheting items and donating them, and serving meals at the Senior Center. She enjoyed a good game of cards with family and friends and loved her family and all of their visits. Her apple pies were the best and served at all family gatherings. Some of her hobbies were embroidery, sewing, crocheting, doing puzzles, and making quilts. The children and grandchildren all received quilts and afghans.

Survivors include six children, Dianne (Dick) Hess, Vern (Sherry) Karls, Don (Sarah) Karls, Jane (Dale) Poland, Pete Karls, and Jean (Dave) DesRochers; grandchildren, Scott (Beni) and Jerry Hess, Carrie Ottoson, Gregg (Jolene) and Kent (Ben) Karls, Breanne (fiancé, Tony) and Ian Karls, Laura, Kresta, Evan (fiancé, Gina Buntin), Chelsea Poland, Tara (Wes) and Mick Karls, Kyle, Dylan, and Lexi DesRochers; and 11 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by Ray (Betty) Greiber, Charles (Marcy) Greiber; sisters-in-law, Genevieve Greiber and Dorothy (Jerry) Maly; and sister, Stella Marie Karls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom and grandson, Jared Karls; her parents; sisters and brothers, Leo (Josie) Greiber, Delaphine (Francis) Klein, Verena (Leander) Hellenbrand and Herman Greiber; in-laws, Martha (Peter) Meffert, Margaret (Roman) Hellenbrand, Delaphine (Ed) Petranek, Joanne (Linus) Schwab, Mary (Ben) Hellenbrand, Joseph (Loretta) Karls, Arnold (Priscilla) Karls, Sylvester, Bill, and Ann Karls.
Mom, you were the greatest. We love you and miss you. Say Hi to dad from us.

The family would like to than the Waunakee Manor for the excellent care you gave her for these past few years.

Funeral services will be held on Friday April 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St John's Catholic Church 209 South St Waunakee. Msgr. James Gunn will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
