Norman Schaller

November 17, 1922 — October 3, 2017

Fitchburg - Norman F. Schaller, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born November 17, 1922 to Fredrick W. Schaller and Lena Gafke Schaller in Belleville, Wisconsin. He grew up in Belleville and graduated from high school there in 1940. He was inducted into the U.S. Army for service in World War II. He achieved the rank of Staff Seargant, and was awarded the Bronze Metal for action in battles in Germany. After his discharge, he attended the University and joined the AAA in Madison, working in insurance. In 1946, he married Elaine Kleppe, daughter of Lauren Kleppe and Marie Hammerlie. Norman is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Paul (Sandra), James (Nancy), Kristine (David) Kappel, Carol (Steven) Sobek; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Leo. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 with a visitation from 10:00 a.m.until the time of service. A luncheon will follow the service, and burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.
