Norman Salt

January 19, 1923 — September 12, 2014

Madison: Norman James Salt passed away on September 12, 2014. Norm was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England on January 19, 1923. His parents, James and Thirza (Hancock) Salt, settled in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1926 and Norm was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. Because of World War II, Norm joined the U.S. Navy where he met his wife Jean (Stoltz) while he attended Radio Code School at UW Madison. He was in the Navy from November 1, 1942, until February 3, 1946, serving in several VR Naval Transport Squadrons, including any NATS PAC. Norm was past president of the Metropolitan Business Association, National Machine Accounting, past board member of the Arthritis Foundation and Easter Seals of Wisconsin. Norm was the former director of the Charitable, Educational, and Scientific Foundation of the State Medical Society of Wisconsin and office manager for WPS in Madison. He was a past Exulted Ruler for the Madison Elks Lodge 410, where he was a life member. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Norm was preceded in death by his wife Jean, of 69 years of marriage, his daughter Susan Salt Borquist (John), his son James, his mother and father, two sisters, Elsie May and Hilda, and his brother, Reginald. Norm is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Salt of Monona, six grandchildren - Jacqueline Gleason (Quint) of New Glarus, Debra Borquist-Conlon (Peter) of Madison, Pam Borquist of Milwaukee, Julie Borquist of Madison, Karla Salt of Poynette, Norman Salt (Betsy) of Madison, ten great-grandchildren, and his nephew, Bob Salt of Palm City, FL, and niece, Cathy Riccardi, of North Plainfield, NJ. Norm and his family want to thank Agrace Hospice, Home Health United Hospice, and St. Mary's Care Center for their loving care and assistance. The celebration of Norm's life will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 6101 University Avenue, Madison, WI 53705. Father in your keeping; leave me now thy servant sleeping. Norm always said, "Remember the good times" and "Life is a gift from God".
