WAUNAKEE-Norbert "Curly" Buechner, age 89, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family following a short illness on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015. He was born in the Township of Springfield on July 18, 1926, to Louie and Gertrude (Meier) Buechner. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956 and was a member of the Waunakee American Legion Post 360. Curly was employed by the Dane County Hwy. Dept. for over 30 years and upon retirement, enjoyed his gardening, fishing for bullheads, and reminiscing with friends and family.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Viola; daughters, Lisa (friend, Ed Harris) Foy, Sue (Wes) Gray, Denise (Luke) Wacek, Dorothy, and Pam (Jon) Ripp; son, Vincent; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernadette Haack and Rose Grosse; two brothers, Leo (Kay) and Leonard; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Schneider and Henrietta Grosse; and also two brothers, Ludwig and Vincent.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at St John's Catholic Church, 209 South St., Waunakee. Msgr. James Gunn will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Full Military Honors will follow the Mass. Private burial will take place at St. Martins Cemetery, Martinsville.
The family wishes to thank Dr. William Ranum for his longtime care and friendship, Msgr. Gunn and Father Jim Leeser for their visits and prayers along with all of those who provided food and support, and St. Jude Hospice Care (Felicia, Lori, Maria, Jeri, Elizabeth and Peggy) and St. Mary's Oncology Unit for their compassion in Curly's final days.
