Norbert Anderson

May 3, 1928 — April 25, 2015

Madison - Norbert Kent Anderson, loving and devoted husband, father grandfather, and brother, departed this earth peacefully on April 25, 2015 at Agrace Hospice surrounded by his entire family. He is now in the arms of our Heavenly Father, and those he loved who had gone before him.

Norbert was born a twin with Norman on May 3, 1928 to Einer and Mayme "Mae" Arneson Anderson in Madison, Wisconsin. Nine days after giving birth Mae passed away. Einer then married Elvera "Vera" Larson who lovingly helped Einer to raise the twin boys.

Norbert was a lifelong resident of Madison, attending Franklin and West High School. Norbert then attended UW-Madison, and graduated in 1952 with a B.S. degree in Economics. Norbert began his career of 40 years at the State Bureau of Personnel. He subsequently was assigned to the Motor Vehicles Division, and went on to take jobs with the State Patrol and the DOT's Division of Business Management. In 1978 he was appointed Administrator of the Motor Vehicles Division. Norbert held many professional affiliations as: President with the American Association of Motor Vehicles Administrators (AAMVA), Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin State Employees Credit Union (now Summit Credit Union), a member of the Board of Directors for the Association of Career Employees, a member of the Boy Scouts of America Council, a member of the Middleton Ionic Lodge #352 and ZOR Shrine and a member of the Board of Directors for the Nakoma Country Club.

He and Norman were brothers to Julie (Bill) Johnson, Carol (Skip) Samuel, and Laurie Anderson. He met the love of his life, Lillian Damon when they became neighbors after his family moved within blocks of her family on Madison Street. They married in 1951 and shared 63 years together. Norbert and Lillian have four children and four grandchildren. Most of their married life was spent in their treasured home of 51 years in the Nakoma neighborhood.

Norbert entered the Navy at age 18 as a Midshipman and is a Veteran of World War II. Norbert was thrilled to be part of the Badger Honor Flight in May of 2012, and it was one of the highlights of his life. Norbert was also a 33rd Degree Mason, and was very involved for many years in various roles within the organization

Norbert is survived by his wife, Lillian Damon Anderson, daughters Barbara (David) Parminter, Beverly Anderson, Bonnie (Brad) Locke, and son Robert (Theresa) Anderson. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Gillian Locke, Gavin Anderson, Genna Locke, and Grace Locke. Norbert loved his extended family on both sides, and he and Lillian opened their home and hearts to many relatives throughout the years. He also loved spending time with many friends very often with coffee in hand.

He is predeceased by Father, Einer Anderson, Birth Mother, Mae Anderson, Mother, Vera Anderson, Brother, Norman Anderson, and Nephew Richard Anderson.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation and gratitude to the entire medical team at Agrace for their loving care of Norbert. The family is also thankful for the many years of medical care provided by Norbert's Physician Dr. Michael Thom.

Friends may join the family for a visitation on Thursday, April 30 from 4-7pm at Cress Center, 6021 University Ave, Madison, WI 53705. A Rose and Salt Service will precede the Masonic Service following the visitation at 7pm. The funeral service will take place Friday, May 1 at 11am at Cress Center.
