Nerissa Chudacoff Victor, known as Riss, died peacefully at the age of 94 after a short illness on Sunday, March 24, at Coventry Village in Madison.
Born in Marinette, WI, she lived in Madison most of her life. In 1939, she married Meyer (Mike) Victor, who was for many years the owner of Victor Music on State Street and who died in 1991.
She earned a BA in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin in 1940 and wrote feature stories for numerous publications, including the Capitol Times and the Wisconsin State Journal. As a volunteer, she played an energetic role in the Sisterhood of Beth Israel Synagogue, serving as officer and editor of the organization's newsletter. From 1974 to 1980 she worked for the Credit Union National Association as editor of Everybody's Money. After retirement, she and Mike lived in Rancho Bernardo, CA, where she was active in the Press Club of San Diego. In 2004, she returned to Madison and lived in Coventry Village.
Countless friends and relatives remember her sense of humor, cheerfulness and devotion to her family. She is survived by her brother Manny N. Chudwin, of Olympia Fields, IL, and by her sons Stephen Victor of New Haven, CT, and Robert Victor of Madison, as well her grandchildren Ethan Victor of Branford, CT, and Serena Victor of Boston, MA.
The family plans a celebration of her life on Saturday, April 13 at 3:00 pm in the Side Room at Biaggi's Restaurant, â₪601 Junction Rd, Madison, WI 53717. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Coventry Village Scholarship Foundation (7707 North Brookline Drive, Madison, WI 53719) or to the Memorial Union Fund (1290611) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
