Sun Prairie- Nancy J. Hanks Carnitz Stolen passed away December 13, 2016 after a long illness.
She was born to Stanley M. Hanks and Mary E. Boorse on April 5, 1939 in Milwaukee. Nancy graduated from Wauwatosa High School in 1957 and went on to earn her B.S in Early Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Nancy spent many years teaching pre-school and her commitment impacted hundreds of Madison area children.
Nancy married James (Jim) G. Carnitz on June 10, 1961 and they welcomed two children; Amy J. Churchill of Copperas Cove, Texas in 1962, and Patrick J. (Deborah) Carnitz of Madison in 1966.
Later in life Nancy met and married the love of her life, Don L. Stolen, and they settled in their new home in Sun Prairie. Together they enjoyed cooking, traveling, and reading.
Nancy is dearly missed by her family and friends, and will be remembered for her off-beat sense of humor and addiction to chocolate.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her nephew, Scott Hanks; and great-nephew, Christopher Gerard.
She is survived by her husband; her children; and her grandchildren; Christopher (Ashley Robinson) and Cody (Angela Caputo) Carnitz, and Jordan (Amber) and Logan Churchill. She also leaves behind two adored great-grandchildren, Autumn Churchill and Jaxson Carnitz; her brother, Leland F. (Ann) Hanks; and two dear friends of more than 60 years, Carole Horgen Hendricks and Jeanne Kimpel, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the kind and compassionate care provided to our mom and sister by Capitol Lakes Health Center and Heartland Hospice.
A celebration of life will be held at Cress Funeral Home at 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie Wisconsin 53590 on Wednesday, December 28 at 2:00pm with a visitation preceding the service at 1:00pm. The family will hold a private burial in Wauwatosa Cemetery, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
