The Rev Nancy Boettcher McClurg
The Rev. Nancy Boettcher McClurg passed away unexpectedly on April 10, 2024. She was born on June 19th, 1939, in Chicago, IL to Edgar and Louise (Geisler) Boettcher.
After high school (Wauwatosa, WI) she attended UW – Madison and earned a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and Science. She taught high school science in Beloit.
She married the Rev James McCLurg from Wauwatosa on June 23, 1962. They had two children, David and Luanne.As they grew, she returned to school at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI and earned a master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling. Several years later she decided to pursue her true passion and went to Wartburg Theological Seminary and earned a Master of Divinity.
She served ELCA parishes in Plymouth and New Berlin, WI as well as several interim ministries after.
After retiring she loved spending her time at their cabin in Mercer, WI and on the shores of Lake Superior.She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. James McClurg and her beloved dog Gretchen.
She is survived by son David (Donna) McClurg of Georgetown, TX, daughter Luanne (Curt) Schumacher of Marshall, WI; grandchildren; Brittany (Bo) McCready, Brianna Lathi, Garrett McClurg, Amanda (Jesse) Strawbridge, Jacob and John Hofmeister and Seth Schumacher; and great grandchildren; Maisie and Willow.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4th, at Burke Lutheran Church, 5720 Portage Road, Madison, WI 53718 with a visitation beginning at 12:00pm until the time of service at 2:00pm. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to ELCA World Hunger and Wartburg Seminary.
