Myrtle "Lyn" Gilboe passed peacefully at home after 96 wonderful and exciting years on this earth. She was born in Chicago to Kathryn (Kruzinski) and Victor Kroll, growing up in Cicero. A self-described shy and awkward child, she excelled in school and was soon on her way to Miami University in Oxford, OH. There, she met the love of her life, David, and married on August 18, 1951. Soon after, David left for the Korean War. After returning, David found his way to UW-Madison where the couple made their permanent home.
Lyn worked at McArdle Cancer Research until the arrival of the children. She then found a career at the UW Extension Survey Research Lab, where she retired as a supervisor.
An active member of St. Thomas Aquinas, Lyn loved creating beautiful banners, helping with the Friday fish fries, and teaching catechism.
Along with her love for cooking and sewing, she was a seasoned traveler, having been to all 7 continents and the North Pole. Some of her favorite trips were on safari. Lyn will also be remembered for her famous Christmas parties. She was always looking forward to the next one. She filled our hearts with kindness, gratitude, laughter, and wisdom.
Lyn is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, AJ (Anna); daughter, Sarah; and furry friends, Ellie and Sid. Preceded in death by her husband and sister.
A visitation will be held on Fri., December 5, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 602 Everglade Dr., from 10am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Please share your memories at www.cressfuneralservice.com
The family would like to give a special thanks to caregivers Chantel and Tionna for the exceptional job they did.
Lyn will be missed by all and celebrated as a life very well lived.
