Myrtle Alderson

September 16, 1924 — April 19, 2017

Madison- Myrtle Alderson (nee Tonn), a lifelong resident of the Madison area, passed away at Agrace Hospice on April 19, at age 92. She was born September 16, 1924, and graduated from Central High School.

She worked as a legal and professional secretary before marrying George Alderson in 1951. She interrupted her career to raise a family, cooking and baking, especially for large family gatherings, and sewing many of the clothes worn by her family. Always ready to be part of family adventures, she enjoyed camping, square dancing and playing cards.

As an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, she participated in Couple's Club, Church Circle and Blanket Workshop.

She returned to work as a secretary at the City Department of Traffic Engineering in Madison, and retired in 1984.

Traveling with her husband in retirement was important, and she made 28 trips to Alaska during that time. Family continued to be central to her life.

The last ten years of her life were enjoyed at Oakwood Village University Woods, and she directed her body be donated to the University of Wisconsin Medical School upon her death.

She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Nina Schmalz and Dorothy Foster, and her husband, George Alderson. She is survived by two daughters, Judy Alderson (Daryl Miller), Anchorage, AK, and Nancy Frank, Ridgeland, WI.

There will be a memorial service at Oakwood Village University Woods Chapel, 6205 Mineral Point Road, Madison, at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 26. Social and commemorative gathering will take place after the service.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Agrace Hospice, 5395 East Cheryl Pkwy, Madison, 53711 or the Wildlife In Need Center, W349S1480 S Waterville Rd, Oconomowoc, WI 53066.
