Madison- Myong Hui "Kim" Murphy, 79, of Madison passed away peacefully on Monday, March 13, 2017 at UW Hospital surrounded by her dear friends and family.
Myong was born in Seoul, South Korea on May 29, 1937. Myong operated a Tea Room on the Air Force base in Seoul where she met her future husband, Raymond Murphy. Kim and Raymond married on August 18, 1978 in Seoul. Upon Ray's retirement from the Air Force, they settled in Madison and Kim came to meet her new family. Myong was a diligent and valued employee at Decker for many years, driving in the early morning hours to open up the plant. She was especially in tune to the needs of the young and elderly. She gave extraordinary care to her mother-in-law, her husband's aunt and uncle, and to her husband has his health deteriorated. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament church.
She is survived by four sisters-in-law, Joan Ace of Brainerd, MN, Barbara Hayes of Racine, Marian (Joe) Dean of Madison, Patricia (Frank) Statz of Columbus; brother in law, Richard (Donna) Murphy of Lodi and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Song Su Kim and Chong To Sam of Seoul; husband, Raymond (2002); mother-in-law, Blanche Murphy (1993); two special brothers-in-law John Hayes (2013) and John Ace (2015).
The family wishes to give special thanks to Ann, Bev, Pam and LuAnn for their support and friendship; a very special friend, Chong I (Jack) Roberts and their son James of Texas; Bob and Sandy of Denver, CO; the Madison Korean community of friends who befriended and cared for Myong over the years; and the UW Palliative Care Unit. Special thank you to Dr. Brian Jubeck and nurses Kristen and Amy, who provided exceptional, compassionate care.
A funeral service will be held at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, WI on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM. A gathering will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 10:30 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
