Madison, WI - Monica Kay Lauer, age 68, formerly of Roxbury, WI passed into peace on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. She was born on March 8, 1958, in Prairie du Sac to Harold and Phyllis (Taylor) Frey.

Monica was a proud RN known for her deep compassion for veterans, the elderly, refugees, and frankly anyone that was downtrodden or disenfranchised. She would give away her last dollar to someone in need. She had a keen eye for beauty and had wide-ranging artistic talents, finding meaning and inspiration in nature. There is no doubt that she saved her best self for her children and grandchildren, who were the lights of her life.

Monica is survived by three children Rob (Chloe), Änna Jones (Michael Piotter), and Hunter (Valentina) Jones; four beautiful grandchildren Josie, Kerry, Julian, and August; and siblings Barbara (Al), Thomas (Lynet), Christine (Bob), Kevin, Brian, Colleen (Mark) Sprecher, Tim (Liz), Jeannie, Mitch, and sister-in-law Diane. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Phyllis Frey, and brothers Keith and Steven.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 8 at 10:00 a.m. until the time of a short memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd, Madison. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the International Red Cross or the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
