Obituary

Dr. Mon Lun Yee passed away peacefully at his home in Fitchburg, Wisconsin, on July 11, 2026, at the age of 57, following a courageous year-long battle with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer).

Born in Farmington, Michigan, Mon Lun grew up in Rockford, Illinois, alongside his brother and cousins. He earned a degree in biochemistry from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign before receiving his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford.

Medicine was more than a profession to Mon Lun. It was his calling. After completing his residency in Milwaukee, he began caring for patients within the University of Wisconsin Health system before joining UnityPoint Health Meriter in 2011. Over more than three decades as a physician, he built lasting relationships with his patients and colleagues through his compassion, quiet dedication, and genuine care for others. Being “Dr. Yee” was one of the great joys of his life.

Beyond medicine, Mon Lun found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He loved traveling with his wife and family, tying flies, and spending peaceful days fly-fishing with those closest to him. He had a lifelong passion for great food, whether discovering new restaurants during family trips through Europe and weekends in Chicago or preparing meals at home to share around the table. Those moments of conversation, laughter, and togetherness were among the ones he treasured most.

Above all, Mon Lun was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Yee; their five children, Bentley Bourne, Evelyn Yee, Dylan Bourne (Jasmine Jones), Alexander Yee (Ashley Yee), and Hunter Bourne; his brother, Paul Yee; his cousins, Anita Szeto and Aaron Szeto; and his parents, Heung and Jim Yee.

Our family extends our deepest gratitude to his oncology team, especially Dr. Sam Lubner and Dr. Sean Ronnekleiv-Kelly, whose extraordinary care, compassion, and dedication gave Mon Lun more precious time with those he loved.

A public memorial celebrating Mon Lun’s life will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at The Atwood Music Hall, 1925 Winnebago Street, Madison, Wisconsin 53704. All are welcome to join us in remembering and celebrating Mon Lun’s life. Guests are invited to arrive and depart at any time throughout the evening.
