Milton Holiday Paul, M.D. - January 9, 1926 - January 31, 2017
MADISON -Milton Holiday Paul, age 91, passed away at his home in Madison, WI on January 31, 2017.
Milton was born in Philadelphia, PA to Israel and Stella (Gassel) Paul. After graduating from Philadelphia's Central High School, Milton attended college and graduated from medical school at the University of Pennsylvania (Medical School Class of 1948). He served in the U.S. Navy (stationed in San Diego), and later in the U.S. Army (posted to the Walter Reed National Medical Center).
Milton and his former wife, the late Phyllis Tnuva Wechter, M.D., lived for many years in the Chicago area. He was Professor of Pediatrics and Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University, and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the Children's Memorial Hospital.
Milton was fortunate to meet his life partner, Dr. Judith Heilizer, in 1984. Milton and Judith lived in Highland Park, Illinois until 2007 and then relocated to Madison, where they are members of Congregation Shaarei Shamayim.
Milton was an enthusiastic lifelong pursuer of knowledge, Jewish life and learning, art and music.
Milton's survivors include his life partner Judith Heilizer of Madison; children Joshua, Jeremy and Ephraim Paul, and their spouses Nina Kimenker, Julie Agoos and Liz Galbraith; Paul grandchildren Isaac Hammond-Paul, Rachel Paul, Adrian Galbraith-Paul, Henri Hammond-Paul, Jacob Paul, Leo Galbraith-Paul, Ella Agoos and Julian Galbraith-Paul; Judith's children Ruth, Jeff, Deborah (deceased), Glenn, Rachel, Tim, Miriam and Gino; and 15 Heilizer grandchildren.
Milton's family is profoundly grateful to Agrace HospiceCare for their wise and compassionate care. Contributions in his honor may be made to Jewish Social Services of Madison.
There will be a gravesite service on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at The Farley Center for Peace, Justice & Sustainability, 2299 Spring Road, Verona, WI.
