Milo G. Flaten Jr, age 87, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013 at All Saints Assisted Living. He was born on May 7, 1925 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Milo G. and Winifred (McDonald) Flaten Sr. Milo grew up in Minneapolis and moved to Milwaukee during high school, where he graduated from Shorewood High School. The day after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served the 29th infantry division. He was a reconnaissance scout, landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day. Milo served many years in the army reserves, and retired as a Colonel with the U.S. Army. After serving his country, Milo enlisted in college at UW Madison, graduating from UW Law School in 1952. He practiced law in Madison from 1952 until December, 2012 as a labor arbitrator. In January of 1951, Milo was united in marriage to George-Ann. In Madison, Milo served on the City Council for the 11th ward. Milo was a huge Badger sports and booster fan. He was a part of the "Field House Faithful", filling the stands of Badger basketball, football, and hockey from the early days. He was a huge UW baseball fan, until the programs demise, and was a founding member of the Dug Out Club. Milo was actively involved in the Madison Jazz Society, and enjoyed Dixieland Jazz. Milo is survived by his three children, Michael D. (Anne), Daniel (fianc�, Susan), and Catherine Flaten Jones (Steven Jones); grandchildren, Gabriel, Zachary, Max D. and Georgeann; and an older sister, Katherine Karns of Ellensburg, Washington. He was preceded in death by his wife. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2013 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
