Michael W. “Zipper” Schroud, 74, of Sun Prairie passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison.

Zipper was born on November 10, 1951 in Madison to Willis and Dorothy (Kreger) Schroud. He served in the Army, 82nd Airborne from 1970 until 1973. He worked for Maly Tile for over 32 years. He was a huge NASCAR fan.

Michael is survived by his children Tim Schroud and Nicole Ayers; siblings, Kathy Hafner, Kris (Gene) Hohmann, Jamie (Rhoda) Schroud, Julie (Steve) Sabatke, Tommy (Kathy) Schroud, David (Nicole) Schroud; aunt, Ruthie Schroud; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by Geri’s children, Terry Flint, Cheryl(Todd) Davidson and their daughter Kristena.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Althoff, father Willis Schroud and step mother Diane Schroud; brother-in-law, Dave Hafner; and nephew, Brenden Hafner. He was also preceded in death by his lifelong partner, Geraldine Hauf.

A celebration of life will be held at the VFW Post 9362 in Sun Prairie on April 19 from 11am til 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VFW post 9362 in Michael’s name.
