Michael "Mike" D. Matheson

May 25, 1955 — April 27, 2024

Michael D. Matheson, age 68, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at his home in Wisconsin Dells.

He was born in Stoughton, WI on May 25, 1955, son of Richard “Dick” and Phyllis (Gullickson) Matheson.

He married his best friend and soulmate, Connie (Houser) in Madison on May 21, 1977 before settling in Sun Prairie, WI.  Mike and Connie’s love for each other was extraordinary and unwavering.  He missed her profoundly after she passed away in February, 2015.

Mike was an incredibly devoted father who could not have been more proud of his children.  He especially loved watching Alex play professional football and Brianna carry on Connie’s legacy with a career in healthcare.

After graduating from Deerfield High School in 1973, he earned a degree in Accounting from Madison Area Technical College.   Mike worked in local government and the hardware industry before his career as an independent piano tuner.

Mike was a funny, kind, and generous man who was loved deeply throughout the communities of Sun Prairie, Deerfield, Madison, Wisconsin Dells, and surrounding areas.  He was known to many as a long-time member of the Oak Park Band, piano tuner, youth sports coach, local theater star, church choir director, and karaoke phenomenon.

Mike is survived by his children, Brianna (Ross) and Alexander; sister Judy, children David, Matthew, Shanda; brother Rick (JoAnn), children Tammy, Todd, Rich, Angie, Jennie; sister Linda, children Kelly, Kari; sister Ann (Chuck) children Justin, Jon, Max, Jessica, Brittany, Mitchell; sister-in-law Marlene, children Lucas, Trevor, Dontay; sister-in-law Terrie (Rick), children Samantha, Maxwell; and many cousins, in-laws, and great nieces/ nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife Connie, parents Dick and Phyllis, parents-in-law Ron and Mary Ellen, brother-in-law Bill Fish, brother-in-law Steve Houser, and nephew Kristopher Hansen.
