Michael Martens

Michael A. Martens, 74, of Waunakee, died unexpectedly at home on January 28, 2022. He was born on May 29, 1947, in Milwaukee, to William A. and Loretta (Barbian) Martens. Mike graduated from Sacred Heart Seminary in 1967 and UW-Madison in 1970. He married Virginia “Gini” Preuss on June 28, 1970.

Mike was in the automobile business for many years working in sales at Middleton Motors, management at Zimbrick Isuzu and Acura, owner of Style Motors, and buyer for Kayser used cars.

Known for his sense of humor, sharp wit, and memorable anecdotes, Mike enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends, Randy, Joe, Walter, and Jim; spending time with his family and friends; Packer, Brewer and Badger games; getting his pilot’s license; crossword puzzles; sudoku; gardening; reading and history.

Mike is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gini; daughter, Heather (Stephen) Raffel; grandson, Michael; sisters and brother, Judith Martens, Kathleen (Don) Risch, Elaine (Don) Rappel, Mary (Ron) Sielski, and Mark (Carol) Martens; sisters-in-law, Diane Hallihan and Joanne Martens; nieces; nephews; a large extended family; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Martens; and a granddaughter, Sarah Raffel.

Upon Mike’s wishes, he was an organ and tissue donor - a private family service was held.

Memorials can be made in Mike’s name to either Middleton Outreach Ministry (MOM), Boys and Girls Club of Dane County, or Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
