Michael Austin

Middleton- Michael Austin, Age 79, passed away unexpectedly at his home May 19, 2024.

He was born on April 26, 1945 to Joseph and Ottilia (Ripp) Austin in Black Earth, Wisconsin. 

Mike graduated from Wisconsin Heights High School in 1964 and married the love of his life, Mary Derra on August 20, 1966.

He retired with 42 years at Madison Gas and Electric as a lineman, advancing to Supervisory foreman.

Mike was a talented accordion player who spent 30 years with the Russ Wilson band before starting the Mike Austin band with his son, David. Mike loved the time spent with his family and also enjoyed time on the family farm.

All those who knew Mike knew of his strength of character and strong sense of responsibility. His children marveled at his physical feats of strength that rivaled those of Paul Bunyan. He could fix anything and he had a heart that wanted everyone to do well in whatever they were striving towards.

Mike is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Cheri (Ron) Brenton; Steve (Cindy) Austin, David Austin, grandchildren, Aaron, Michael and Lauren Brenton; and Max Austin.  His siblings, Don (Susan) Austin, Mary Kay Uselman (Don, deceased), Patt Collins (Benny, deceased), Raymond Austin, Darlene Austin and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Rodney Austin.

A Funeral service will be held on Friday May 31, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St Bernards Catholic Church 2015 Parmenter St. Middleton. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers the family will determine a memorial at a later date.
