Mel Biang

MADISON - Melvin "Mel" Albert Biang, age 92, of Madison, WI, passed away on Thursday Morning, December 15, 2015 at the University of Wisconsin American Health Center. He was born on October 17, 1923 in Chicago, IL the son of George C and Minnie T. (Witt) Biang. Melvin was first married to Shirley M. Snyder, St. Ignace, MI, mother of his children, and later married Marion Gripp (nee Peterson) of Marquette, MI.
In 1941 Mel graduated from Proviso High School in Chicago, IL, before serving in the United States Navy where he received an Honorable Disability Discharge. Mel worked for the Civil Aeronautics Division, and became an auditor for the US Department of Agriculture until his retirement.
He was a member of the BPOE #410 and BPOE of Marquette, MI. Mel's most recent interests included watching Chicago Cubs Baseball on TV and other sports, following the Wisconsin Teams. He enjoyed playing cards, working crosswords, and was an avid golfer. He loved music and dancing and played the accordion and piano. Mel visited and played Cribbage with veterans at the D.J. Jacobotti Veterans Home, Marquette, MI. He especially enjoyed tending to his roses and spending time with family and friends. Many will remember Mel using the words "kiddos" and "1, 2, 3".
Survivors include Special Friend, Joanne, five daughters all of MI: Nanette Biang, of Lake Odessa; Caroline Brown, of Newberry; Debra White, of Cheboygan, Ren� Kerns, of Naubinway; and Linda Shearer, of McMillan; one sister, Dolores Powers, of IL; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mel is preceded in death by his parents; two eldest daughters: Elizabeth Majinska and Shirley Courtnay; and two granddaughters: Jaime Majinska and Therese Walker.
At Mel's request he will be cremated without funeral services. Memorials may be made to Elks Lodge #410, Elks Lodge Marquette, MI, Veterans Affairs, Veterans Organizations, American Legions, Salvation Army, or the family at: PO Box 72, McMillan, MI 49853.
