Maxine Ohnstad

July 17, 1916 — December 24, 2014

MADISON - Maxine Helen (Reid) Ohnstad, 98, passed away on December 24, 2014.
She was born on July 17, 1916, in Marshall, MO. She was the daughter of the late George William Reid and Pansy Lou (Aker) Reid.
In the late 1930s, Maxine came to Madison to live with her older sister, Janice Lower, and Janice's husband, Rev. Cecil Lower, in their basement apartment at Pres House on lower State Street.
Maxine met her husband, David J. Ohnstad, in Madison; and in 1942 at the Pres House, Cecil Lower helped them "tie the knot." Maxine and David were charter members of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Madison. David preceded her in death on February 1, 2000.
Together they had two sons, who survive her (David R. Ohnstad and wife, Charlene, of Black Earth, WI; and John R. Ohnstad and wife, Judith, of Wausau, WI).
Additional survivors include 4 grandchildren (Deborah Lawrence and husband, Samuel, and Jeffrey Ohnstad and wife, Alicia, both of Madison, WI; and Jacob Ohnstad and wife, Elizabeth, and Joseph Ohnstad, both of Stevens Point, WI); and 4 great grandchildren of Madison, WI (Alexandra and Reed Lawrence and Cecelia and Neala Ohnstad).
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Van Seymour Reid, and two sisters, Janice Reid Lower and Dorothy Lorraine Carter.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful people at Oakwood Village Tabor Oaks and Agrace HospiceCare who offered Maxine such exceptional care. They provided her with a comfortable, loving, family-friendly environment. To celebrate her life, there will be a private gathering with immediate family.
